Bar 44 is a speakeasy secretly tucked inside a mixed-use complex. Enhancing the allure of prohibition, figural poche subdivide patrons into tight and intimate pockets. Rather than using a modernist approach of generating space through programmatic arrangement, we start with the furniture plan as a means for the compositional excavation of volume. Each furniture block is offset into a series of ecclectic extrusions that, while obtrusive, become co-conspirators in the act of merrymaking.
