Gamuda Town Centre is an 8 acre proposal for a mixed-use town centre at the heart of an exurban residential development. An emerging though paradoxical trend is the millenial desire suburban roominess and downtown bustle—an urban middle at the center of nowhere. The developers translate this market demand with a facile proposal of tract homes surrounding a new Instagram city. Our design embraces the artificiality of this contradiction by making what Aldo Rossi calls a “gigantic man-made object” with experiments in scalar drifting and radical adjacencies between exurban voids and mashed-up streetscapes.
