AH HOUSE is a renovation of a tropical late-modern bungalow which contends with the style worry and cultural angst of Malaysia. Avoiding the opulent iconography of Crazy Rich Asians and Islamic pastiche so pervasive with this type, our design strategy uses the invasiveness of a house addition to expose an authentic pidgin substrate—multi-generational accumulation of odd, obfuscating, and quarreling identities.
